South Korea

Korea has four distinct seasons, is surrounded by the sea on three sides, and has a natural environment with more mountains than plains. In this environment, Koreans have developed an excellent and unique food, clothing, and shelter culture. To stay well in the cold winter and hot summer, they developed various clothing materials, made their own clothes, and made food with the mindset that “health comes from eating.”

Introduction of South Korea

South Korea is a country in East Asia that occupies the southern half of the Korean Peninsula. It borders the Sea of Japan, the Yellow Sea, and North Korea.

The Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies at Seoul National University houses the Seungjeongwon Ilgi, a collection of diaries that document the public life of Joseon rulers from 1623 to 1910.

While Seoul is the modern capital city of South Korea, many locals aren't fluent in English. It's generally not a very widely spoken language in South Korea. However, you'll have better luck finding a local who can speak English in main tourist neighborhoods, such as Myeongdong, Dongdaemun and Hongdae.

The best time of year to visit South Korea is generally considered to be the spring months of April, May & June, and the autumn months of September, October & November. During these two seasons days are typically sunny and dry with comfortable average temperatures.

Korea's currency is the won. Paper money comes in denominations of 1,000; 5,000; 10,000; and 50,000 won bills. Coins come in 1, 5, 10, 100, and 500 won (1 and 5 won coins are not widely circulated).

Plenty of ATMs and money changers at the airport on arrival, so purchasing KRW before flying is not really necessary. If you do wish to change money before you arrive, be aware that the rates are not likely to be as good as those you will get in South Korea so it is probably worth
changing as little as possible.
